Why We Recommend JW Marriott Nairobi
Our Take
Why We Recommend JW Marriott Nairobi
Most Nairobi stopover hotels are functional. The JW Marriott is genuinely good. From the attentive airport welcome at JKIA to the memory foam bed overlooking the Westlands skyline, it earns its five stars.
We’ve used it as a safari bookend once at the start, once at the end and it delivers on both. The airport transfer via Nairobi Expressway takes under 20 minutes, even late at night. The welcome feels personal, not scripted. And the 31st-floor bar at sunset? One of those moments that needs no embellishment.
- Kenya’s tallest five star hotel with panoramic city views
- Under 20-minute airport transfer
- Five dining venues, including rooftop Pan Asian cuisine
- Kenyan art, sculpture & textiles throughout
- Spa by JW for pre or post safari wellness

Our Firsthand Experience
Firsthand
Our Firsthand Experience
We arrived late after a slight landing delay, but the hotel’s airport representative was already waiting. The Expressway had us checking in within 20 minutes of clearing immigration. The welcome felt considered, not automatic, and staff remembered small preferences without being asked twice.
The next day, we explored Westlands, met friends for lunch, and made a note to return for Mughal. We missed it this time, but its reputation among Nairobi regulars speaks for itself. That evening, Mr. Pang on the 31st floor delivered exactly what the view promised.
Do we recommend the JW Marriott Nairobi? Absolutely.

Best Time to Visit
Seasons at JW Marriott Nairobi
Year-Round
The JW Marriott is a city hotel and operates fully year-round with no seasonal closure or weather dependency.
Before a Safari
Arriving a night before your safari begins allows time to settle, eat well and sleep before early morning game drive transfers. We recommend arriving the evening before any flight from Wilson Airport.
After a Safari
A final night at the JW Marriott gives you time to decompress, visit a remaining Nairobi attraction, and make an international departure without the pressure of a same-day transfer from the bush.
Our Recommendation
Build at least one night into any Kenya itinerary that passes through Nairobi at the start, the end, or both. The JW Marriott makes that night count.

Our Take
The JW Marriott Nairobi earns its place not simply for expressway convenience, but because it elevates the city stay into a highlight of the trip.
What We Love
The sense of arrival. Very few city hotels in East Africa deliver a genuine welcome at this level the airport representative, the Expressway transfer, the staff who remember your name the next morning. The art and design throughout is the best integration of Kenyan culture we have seen in a Nairobi hotel. And Mr. Pang on the 31st floor is reason enough to build in an evening.
What To Know
This is a city hotel, not a bush camp. If you are expecting the stillness of the wild, that comes after check out. Some guests find the rates steep relative to other Nairobi options they are, and the experience justifies them if you value the level of service and the design. Mughal operates on limited hours confirm in advance if you are planning dinner there specifically.
Who We'd Send Here
Anyone beginning or ending a Kenya safari who wants more than a functional overnight stop. Families travelling with children, couples wanting a comfortable city night, and business travellers who need a reliable base in Westlands.
How Long We'd Stay
One to two nights. One night works as a transit stop done properly. Two nights allows a Nairobi National Park morning, a proper dinner at Mr. Pang, and a relaxed departure.

Questions
Before You Ask
The six things travellers ask us most about JW Marriott Nairobi.
1. Is the airport transfer included?
The hotel operates a dedicated airport transfer service a representative meets you at arrivals and escorts you to the vehicle. Transfer cost is separate from the room rate; confirm at booking.
2. Can we visit Nairobi National Park from the hotel?
Yes. The hotel concierge arranges day visits including morning game drives. The park is approximately 20 minutes by road. We recommend combining this with a visit to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
3. Is the hotel suitable for families?
Yes. The serviced residences in particular suit families well, with separate bedrooms and living areas. Infant beds are available on request.
4. Is the JW Marriott a good first night before a safari?
It is our preferred Nairobi start for itineraries that don’t begin directly at a bush camp. A good night’s sleep, a proper breakfast and a 20-minute Expressway transfer to Wilson Airport makes the morning considerably smoother.
5. What is the dress code at Mr. Pang?
Smart casual. Shorts and flip-flops would be out of place; everything else worn comfortably after a long flight is fine.
6. Does the hotel have Marriott Bonvoy benefits?
Yes Platinum, Titanium and Ambassador Elite members receive complimentary Club lounge access. Confirm specific benefits applicable to your tier at booking.
