Why We Recommend Dunia Camp

Our Take

Why We Recommend Dunia Camp

Dunia is one of the most charming and authentically luxurious tented camps in the Central Serengeti  blending understated style with unmatched conservation purpose. Tucked into a quiet acacia valley between Seronera and the Moru Kopjes, it provides access to the park’s most productive wildlife habitats while avoiding the heaviest vehicle traffic. Established in 2016 as Africa’s first safari camp managed and guided entirely by women, Dunia delivers exceptionally thoughtful hospitality alongside top tier guiding.

Camp Experience

A First Night That Doesn't Feel Like a Layover

The Camp

Canvas, Weathered Wood and a Bush Television Fire

Eight spacious canvas tents sit on raised wooden platforms on the flank of Nyareboro Hill, spaced for privacy with views over open plains. Interiors feature Asilia’s classic safari aesthetic weathered timber, neutral canvas, sisal matting, and warm earth tones. Each tent features a private veranda with a plush daybed. Evenings center around the “bush television” a roaring campfire where guests trade wildlife stories under the equatorial stars.

The Setting

Moru Kopjes & The Heart of the Serengeti

Dunia is situated in a secluded valley southwest of Seronera. Its location between the central river systems and the granite boulders of the Moru Kopjes provides access to diverse wildlife habitats, from the Seronera riverine areas known for lions and leopards to the kopjes where black rhinos may be spotted. Nearby Lake Magadi adds another dimension to the landscape, while open savannah plains stretch south towards Lake Ndutu.

Firsthand

Our Firsthand Experience

Firsthand

Our Firsthand Experience

Flying into Seronera from Arusha, our safari began with an unforgettable encounter. A family of elephants crossed directly in front of us, and we spent 30–45 minutes watching the herd pass. With no other vehicles around, we heard the wind, their footsteps and branches breaking as they fed. An awe-inspiring introduction to Dunia’s secluded setting, away from the Serengeti’s busier circuits.

The all-female guiding team stands out for exceptional tracking skills and bushcraft. From spotting leopards draped over sausage trees along the Seronera to tracking black rhino among the Moru Kopjes, the attention to detail and genuine warmth back at camp make returning after sunset feel like coming home.

Conservation & Empowerment

More Than a Safari

In 2016, Dunia Camp made history by becoming Africa’s first safari camp operated entirely by an all female team  breaking traditional gender barriers in East African guiding and camp operations. Dunia partners closely with the Kamitei Foundation and local communities (including Sambwa Village) to fund secondary and vocational education scholarships. Many scholarship recipients, including camp chefs and hospitality crew, have built long term careers within Asilia’s network.

June – October

Dry season. Superb resident game viewing around the Seronera River pools, prime kopje wildlife, and pleasant safari weather.

November – December

The empowering all female operational model and the warmth of the hosting team. Dunia’s position south of Seronera allows you to dip into high density game areas while retreating to a peaceful, uncrowded valley each night.

What To Know

This is an authentic, eco-conscious canvas tented camp (featuring solar power and traditional hot bucket showers), rather than a permanent concrete lodge. Night drives and walking safaris are not permitted under national park rules.

Couples, solo travelers, and families wanting an intimate, high impact safari with stellar female role models leading the experience.

How Long We'd Stay
