A First Night That Doesn't Feel Like a Layover
The Lodge
Bleached Wood, Granite Boulders and a Gin Bar
Eight suites are spaced along the rocky kopje, each designed to open entirely to the landscape king beds, en-suite rain showers, private decks with sweeping baobab valley views. The main area blends organic bleached timber, warm lighting and African inspired décor with an open-air lounge, library and a gin bar that earns its reputation. A four way infinity pool overlooks the valley with Ruaha’s wilderness stretching to the horizon. Gourmet dinners are served under the African sky each evening – three courses, open flame, no roof.
The Setting
Where East Meets Southern Africa
Ruaha National Park spans over 20,000 square kilometres in south-central Tanzania, making it one of Africa’s largest and less-visited national parks. Jabali Ridge sits near the seasonal Mwagusi River, surrounded by ancient baobabs, dry riverbeds and granite kopjes. Ruaha lies where East African savannah meets Southern African woodland, bringing together an unusual mix of wildlife, including greater and lesser kudu, sable and roan antelope, alongside lions, elephants and other classic safari species.

We were fortunate to be in the right place at the right time, spotting lions, African wild dogs and elephants along the way. Arriving at Jabali Ridge felt like the perfect reward. Its striking granite kopje setting and sweeping views across the baobab valley are among the finest we have experienced from any lodge in Tanzania.

Best Time to Visit
Seasons at Jabali Ridge
June – October
Dry season. Vegetation thins, wildlife concentrates along the Mwagusi River and game viewing is at its most reliable. Best walking conditions and clearest night drives.
November – January
The green season begins, transforming the landscape as migratory birds arrive and safari rates may be slightly lower. Game drives require more patience, but the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic.
February – May
Quieter green season. Lush, fewer vehicles, lower rates. Wildlife disperses but quality guiding compensates. April to May sees the heaviest rains.
Our Recommendation
July to October for peak wildlife concentration along the Mwagusi. November to January for birding, lower rates and the baobab forest in full leaf.

The Mwagusi River area is well known for lion, leopard and elephant sightings, while sable and roan antelope are more commonly found around southern Usangu. Extended drives towards the Great Ruaha River offer opportunities to spot hippos, crocodiles and African wild dogs. The 50-minute airstrip transfer also doubles as a game drive.
